Trans*formations is our newest program with its first meeting in September 2024. In this trans-focused space participants explore identity and community while crafting. Trans*formations is free to participants and all supplies are provided for the guided craft project. Folks are welcome to bring their own crafting supplies and/or projects to work on while sharing trans community.

At each two-hour meeting our facilitator will encourage everyone to be willing to explore deeply within themselves through their passion for the arts: storytelling, community bonding, and personal identity work through the ages from the environment that has crafted you to be the person you are today. Breaks will also be included along with body-movement exercises to help participants ground themselves and take notice of what their body needs at that moment. The themes discussed are rooted to help you reflect on your healing and journey as a trans person living life in all of its shades and hues, such as your personal history and origins, love, grief, and being present to engage in gratitude.

Trans*formations is designed as a closed space for members of the trans community to explore their identities and build community. We ask that participants self-identify under the trans umbrella, which includes non-binary and gender non-conforming folks. There is no requirement to disclose your gender-identity at registration or during the meeting.

Every other month is a BIPOC-only Trans*formations meeting. BIPOC stands for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color. As described by our facilitator, Romeo Mendoza, "Naming and self-naming are important tools for us to connect to become closer to our identities and to share our experiences in community to empower ourselves against oppressive systems in a White-dominated society. Language becomes something to unify and align ourselves with to recognize and realize that we are powerful when we are in solidarity with one another instead of continuing systemic cycles of oppression."

Additional Information:

  • Registration is free! Supplies for each meeting's craft are provided at no cost to participants. Pre-registration is required.

  • Masks are required. N95 Masks will be provided for free.

  • Registration is capped at 10 participants.

  • Meetings are held indoors in a private room at a local community center. The room is ADA accessible and has two genderless bathrooms, one is ADA accessible.  Location information will be made available to registrants. If you have a question about the space  prior to registration please email our Director at director@queertallahassee.com.

  • While big things may come up during discussion this is not a group therapy space, nor is it intended to be one. If these big feelings come up, please do not be afraid to ask for a break. Be mindful of everyone in the space and their lived experiences, including if they feel ready to listen and engage with sensitive topics.

We are currently looking for an additional facilitator for our BIPOC-only Trans*formation meetings starting in late 2024 or early 2025. If you have experience facilitating group activities, classes, or workshops and are interested in working with us please email our director at director@queertallahassee.com.
